Arena Season IV will start Thursday, July 28th!

Earlier CA announced on their forum news, FB page, and in the game news that Arena Season IV will start Thursday, July 28th! Here is what Vulcan had to say in the CA news:

Arena Sign-up start today! Arena will begin this Thursday, July 28th!

Please note there are some changes to the Arena format! Limit to one recharge per battle. Arena Potions that drop from monsters for free recharges. Limit of 5 battles per calendar day. Read the Arena help for more details.

I’m not as excited about this as previous arenas… but. I still hope this will rock!!  I think limiting the refills and battles per day will reduce the complaint that FP’s buy top spots. Just like Arena Season III this is a guild type setup. Personally I wish they would go back to the original Arena setup, but I will still have fun with this.

The two generals shown in the Arena front page are Angelus and Carmilla from CA: HOD. Guess those will be available here eventually as well.

Don’t really have much to say about Arena Season IV yet so here is a posting of the rules:

ARENA SEASON IV 

Arena Season IV will be done in a Guild Battle format. However,unlike guild battles, you will be placed on a randomized team depending on your rank. Two teams will battle against each other in a 1 hour battle. You will be placed randomly in one of the four towers created. Each team will consist of a maximum of forty (40) members,with ten (10) members in each of the four gates. If there are less than 40 members on a team, the team shall be distributed evenly amongst each gate (e.g. 36 team members will result in 9 members in each gate). Each team shall be comprised of individuals within the same Arena Ranks as you. You will also be matched against an opposing team of similar strength. 

Your Class for an Arena Battle is determined by the one selected within theCharacter Class page at the beginning of the Arena Battle. You CANNOTchange your Class for the current battle once it has started. However, you can change your Class and have it take effect on the next Arena Battle. Also remember to set your Class Ability from the Character Class page. 

RULES 

– Each action in the Arena Battle will require the use of Arena Tokens 
– You will be provided a full charge of Arena Tokens at the beginning of each Arena Battle 
– You will recharge an Arena Token every 5 minutes 
– There is a maximum of one (1) Arena Token recharge per battle, whether it is purchased with favor points or an Arena Potion is used 
– Arena Potions can be attained via rewards from monsters 
– An Arena Battle will start every two hours on the hour and you will be placed onto a team with other participants based on your Arena Rank 
– You can participate in a maximum of five (5) Arena Battles per calendar day. The limit will be reset at 12 AM midnight PDT (7 AM GMT) 
– Win battles within an Arena Battle to earn Arena Points 
– The battle portion of an Arena Battle lasts 1 hour or until all players on one side are below 200 health 
– If either team is unable to eliminate all other players on the opposing team, the winning team is the one with the higher percentage of members still above 200 health 
– The Arena Battle must be over in order for you to collect your reward whether that means all members of the opposing team have been eliminated or the time limit has expired 
– You will have up until five (5) minutes prior to the start of the next battle to collect your reward 
– You must collect your reward during the collection period to be awarded your Arena Points 
– If you do NOT collect your reward within the collection period, your Arena Points for that particular battle will be forfeited 
– Members of the winning team collect a 25% bonus to their Arena Point total for that battle (e.g. win 1000 Arena Points within an Arena Battle; reward is 1250 Arena Points) 
– Members of the losing team receive a 25% detriment to their Arena Point total for that battle (e.g. win 1000 Arena Points within an Arena Battle; reward is 750 Arena Points) 
– If the winning team defeats the opposing team within 30 minutes of the start of the Arena Battle, the winning team will receive an additional 10% bonus to their collection of Arena Points (e.g. win 1000 Arena Points within an Arena Battle; reward is 1350 Arena Points) 
– Your rank is based on the number of Arena Points relative to all other Arena participants 
– At the end of each day, you will be awarded a rank relative to all Arena participants 
– Your current rank at the end of the Arena season will determine your final rank and your rewards 
– You will receive rewards for your rank as well as all ranks below it 
– Minimum level to opt into the Arena is level 50 
– Add Reinforcements for additional bonuses in Arena. Each Reinforcement bonus will last for 5 days. 

REINFORCEMENTS 

– Bonus 1: +5 Total Bonus Damage! 
– Bonus 2: +10 Total Bonus Damage! 
– Bonus 3: +20 Total Bonus Damage! 
– Bonus 4: +50 Total Bonus Damage!

Arena II Rewards

With Arena II now done I have taken some time to look at what everyone got. The rewards for this Arena were pretty dang good. Three items are now best in-game. Here are rewards from lowest rank to highest:

Rank 1 – Brawler (Top 81 – 100%)

Swordsman Helm, helmet, 15/15
Attack Power: 25.5
Defense Power: 25.5
Bonus: +3 Stamina when Shino equipped
A pretty good helm, in the top 5 for attack and defending.

Rank 2 – Swordsman (Top 61 – 80%)

Warrior Gauntlet, glove, 9/9
Attack Power: 15.3
Defense Power: 15.3
Bonus: +8 Attack to Shino
A pretty good glove, falls just under HOB

Rank 3 – Warrior (Top 41 – 60%)

Hero Insignia, amulet, 20/15
Attack Power: 30.5
Defense Power: 29
Bonus: +8 Defense to Shino
A pretty good amulet, falls in the top 5 for attacking and defending.

Rank 4 – Gladiator (Top 16 – 40%)

Gladiator Plate, armor, 28/14
Attack Power: 37.8
Defense Power: 33.6
Bonus: +1% crit when Shino is equipped
A pretty good armor, falls in the top 5 for attacking and defending

Rank 5 – Hero (Top 6 – 15%)

Whirlwind, magic, 28/17
Attack Power: 39.9
Defense Power: 36.6
Bonus: +3 Defense to Shino (the +3 defense to player appears to be a typo)
Replaces Gladiator’s Strength as the new best in-game spell!!!

Rank 6 – Vanguard (Top 3 – 5%)

Vanguard Helm, helmet, 35/35
Attack Power: 59.5
Defense Power: 59.5
Bonus: None
Replaces the HoDP as the best in-game helmet!!!

Rank 7 – Alpha Vanguard (Top 0 – 2%)

(I didn’t get AV, so no screen of this one)

Ragnarok, unit, 105/105
Attack Power: 178.5
Defense Power: 178.5
Bonus: None
Replaces Genesis as the best in-game unit! mostly worthy as a trophy for Arena II

Arena II is done!

Arena II is done. Here are the final results:

Rank 2 – Swordsman – 1350 AP
Rank 3 – Warrior – 2460 AP
Rank 4 – Gladiator – 3270 AP
Rank 5 – Hero – 5900 AP
Rank 6 – Vanguard – 7785 AP
Rank 7 – Alpha Vanguard – 8920 AP

With about 8200 AP I finished as Vanguard, and I’m quite happy with that finish. There is a lot complaining on the CA forums today because the Arena was having problems in the last hour, then the Arena was extended an hour. I won’t go into that issue at all, more than enough discussion going on at the CA forum.

Here are my final thoughts on Arena II:

  • Having tokens was a great idea. Using stamina in the first Arena was a pain.
  • The devs need to heal people up in the arena like they stated was going to happen. Many were hiding during Arena II to keep their rank (including me for a few days).
  • They really need to pick a better reward for the top-tier. Once again the top reward was a Unit, which many didn’t care about.
  • Limiting chaining to 5 attacks seemed to have worked pretty well. (hope they don’t do this on the regular battle list, that would impede my progress towards King).
  • Overall I think it went much smoother than the first arena, but was missing a coolness factor the original had… Not sure why, just wasn’t as exciting.

Arena II almost done, a couple of quick notes

Tonight at midnight PST Arena II will be done!!  After the arena is done I will likely do a longer follow-up post. But in the meantime I thought it appropriate to post a couple of items I’ve seen army members having questions on:

  • At midnight the rankings will be determined one last time. I have seen some with the misconception that ranks they have today will be what they finish with, this is not necessarily true. At midnight (PST) the CA servers will end the Arena and calculate the new rankings.
  • You will receive the reward for your final rank and every rank below it.

One other final note, according the spreadsheet from the CA forum here are the approximate rank thresholds as of midnight this morning:

Alpha Vanguard – 7700
Vanguard – 7040
Hero -5600
Gladiator – 3160
Warrior -2410
Swordsman – 1400

The predictions I have seen for what is “safe” for meeting different ranks have been varying all over the place. Some people have been pleading with all of their army members that haven’t joined the Arena to do so now, thus more people can make AV. Personally I am only going for Vanguard. I’m hoping that 7800 will be a good safe place to be for finishing Vanguard. I’ll find out tomorrow if I am right.

Arena II started, initial thoughts

I’m sure everyone has noticed by now that Arena II has started. My initial thoughts (in no particular order):

  • I love the fact that tokens are being used. Last time it was a pain with stamina, meant no monster battling for a while.
  • I’ve heard some army members say they have been attacked in the arena when in hiding. Apparently this time they really are healing people up as they say. (doesn’t affect me, I heal up so I can get the defensive wins.)
  • They changed the rewards. The Apha Ragnarok has been removed and a new helm put in the mix.
  • The ‘reinforcements’ features seems to be just another way to get people to expand their army. The devs are hoping this will bring new people to CA, but realistically it will just cause people to expand their army more using add-me groups.
  • The amount of tokens you can have at once has gone up. It was at 100 for me, now its at 150.
  • Having a good defensive score rocks!!! Easy arena points!

Busy day so I don’t have time to post any actual tips today. I’ll post something tomorrow.

On an unrelated side-note.. I just got Celesta’s Devotion from the Goblin.. It does exist!!!!!!!!!

Arena II starts tomorrow!

Earlier today CA announced that Arena II starts tomorrow. I thought we would have another week to wait, since it was just a few days ago they made the initial announcement. Here is today’s announcement:

Arena Season II: Vanguard will start tomorrow, Wednesday, July 28th at 12 noon PDT (18:00 GMT). Sign-up begins now!

I won’t go into how Arena I worked, if you want the basic rules and rewards from that you find them at the CA Wiki.

This Arena will last for three weeks, starting July 28 and ending August 17. To enter the Arena all you have to do is go to the Battle tab and click Arena. There you will be given a disclaimer saying that once you enter you are committed, and will periodically be healed to put in battles. Simply click Accept to join the Arena. The message confirming you are entered is:

You have now been entered into the Arena!

To see the rules click on the red question mark. Here is a reprint of the rules:

Rules:
– To participate in Arena, each Duel will require the use of Arena Tokens. You will be granted an Arena Token every 10 minutes. Additionally, you can win Arena Tokens from Battles, War, and battling
Alpha Mephistopheles, Red Plains, Azriel, Alpha Bahamut, or Bahamut for a chance to receive more Arena Tokens.
– Each Battle requires 10 Arena Tokens
– Win War Duels on the Arena Page to earn Arena Points
– Your character will be automatically healed periodically and summoned forth into battles, even if you are not logged on
– Your rank is based on the number of Arena Points relative to all other Arena participants
– The higher your Opponent’s Rank relative to yours, the more Arena Points you receive for winning
– Opponents of lower rank will yield fewer Arena Points per win and also result in more Arena Points lost per loss
– At the end of each day, you will be awarded a rank relative to all Arena participants
– Your current rank at the end of the Arena season will determine your final rank and your rewards
– You will receive rewards for your rank as well as all ranks below it
– Minimum level to opt into the arena is level 80
– Add Reinforcements for additional bonuses in Arena. Each Reinforcement bonus will last for 5 days.

My initial thoughts of this are there will be LOT of NG monster battles the next few weeks. Everyone will be trying to get extra tokens. Also there will be a LOT of people adding new friends if I’m reading the reinforcements part correctly.

There are seven ranks total, each with its own reward. I notice the top two ranks each have a unit as their reward, not sure its worth it to get rank 7 for another unit. Later I will look at the rewards and see how they compare to what is already available. Previously a complaint that anyone with major stamina and Favor Points (cc players) could rule the game… This time I think the complaint will be that high level monster hunters and FP players (again cc players) will rule the game.

Just Announced: Arena Season II… Coming Soon!!!!!!

It’s about that time again. Arena Season 2! Coming Soon! Stay tuned for more details…

All I can say is: ROCK ON!!!

Glancing at the announcement pic you can see what are probably 3 generals. The middle one is the latest FP general Suri. On the left appears to be a new female general. On the right is some sort of black knight type general.

I finished the first Arena well enough to get my ZMC… But this time I want to end on top and have worked on my character build ever since!!
