20 Free FP, old news but forgot to post

August 28, 2010 2 comments

A couple of days ago a link started spreading around for CA players to get 20 free FP. Here is the link:

http://apps.facebook.com/castle_age/index.php?ereturn=1

Here is what info I can gleam from the CA forum (here and here) and my army members about the link:

  • It works for all CA players (worked fine for me).
  • It was received by at least a few people via email in a “come back to Castle Age” type message.
  • It was also posted on a Developer/Testers FB wall, so its not an unsafe link (or one that goes against the TOS).
  • Changing the number at the end of the URL does not change the amount of FP received.

New FP General: The Sword Dancer, Zin!

August 28, 2010 2 comments

With the Arena going on the CA devs held off a week to release the latest FP general: The Sword Dancer, Zin! This has been released in conjunction with the new Mystical Dagger Gift. You must be level 130 to purchase this general. Here is the lore for Zin:

Zin is so well renowned for her skill and elegance with the sword that she has received the title Sword Dancer. Zin can take down a battalion of orcs without breaking a sweat or wasting a single sword strike.

Zin can be purchased for 30 FP’s. There are three items for her that can be purchased for 25 FP each. Here is the info I have on her so far:

Zin

Ability: 23 Hour Cooldown: Recover X Stamina

Level 1: 17/17   +5 Stamina up to your maximum upon your next attack
Level 2: 18/18   +8 Stamina up to your maximum upon your next attack
Level 3: 19/19   +11 Stamina up to your maximum upon your next attack
Level 4: 20/20   +15 Stamina up to your maximum upon your next attack
Level 4 + 3 items: 21/22, +3 Energy when Zin is equipped, +15 Stamina up to your maximum upon your next attack

L4 ATT PWR: 34
L4 DEF PWR: 34
L4 War ATT PWR: 204
L4 War DEF PWR: 204
L4set War ATT PWR: 218.4
L4set War DEF PWR: 220.2

Serenity Blade, weapon, 16/16, +1 Attack to Zin (not stackable)

Lore: The Serenity Blade gets its name from the way Zin is able to wield the weapon with unmatched grace. In Zins capable hands, the sword slices through the air without a single noise and silence its foes forever.

Ancient Shield, shield, 12/12, +2 Defense to Zin (not stackable)

Lore: Though Zin rarely uses the Ancient Shield, when the situation calls for it she will equip the powerful off-protector. With the Ancient Shield equipped, Zin has never been touched by an enemy blade.

Windstalker Crown, helmet, 10/12, +3 Energy when Zin is equipped (not stackable)

Lore: The Windstalker Crown is a family heirloom passed to Zin by the matriarch of her Elven clan. The Windstalker Crown is said to improve the focus and endurance of its bearer.

There was also this special note released along with her:

Note the ability is activated upon performing an attack on a monster as of right now. We will have it activate upon attacks in Battle and War next week.

Now having looked at her stats, ability and gear I think she is not worth the 30 RP, unless you already have all of the other generals. She has OK stats, but nothing that will really help in battle or WAR.

Her stamina building ability seems good, but again I’m not sure its worth the FP for what little stamina it regenerates. I looked at this thread on the CA forum since I didn’t feel like doing the math this time. It shows what I was thinking, if you have a low stamina character she may be worth getting. But if you have, or will have, a lot of stamina her ability is just not worth it.

New Gift: Mystical Dagger Gift!

August 28, 2010 3 comments

Its only been a week since the release of the Crimson Dagger Gift, but the CA devs already released a new one last night: Mystical Dagger Gift! This gift does not appear to knock any other gifts off the list. This gift is being released alongside the new FP General The Sword Dancer, Zin!

There are 3 components to this gift: Darkness Essence, Dull Blade, and Wormwood Berries. All 3 components are “pure alchemy” items, thus they can all be used in the Goblin Emporium. 2 of each ingredient make up the alchemy recipe. To combine the components go to “Alchemy” > “Recipes” and click “Combine”.

Once the components are combined you will get the Mystical Dagger.

The dagger will show up in your inventory in the town under Blacksmith. The Mystical Dagger is a weapon with an Attack of 5 and a Defense of 5. At this power level it is slightly stronger than the Gladiator Sword, but weaker than the Ornate Axe. If you don’t have Ornate Axe as your weakest weapon I would make these. See my previous post on how the Ornate Axe makes mystery gift weapons irrelevant for invasions.

For its special ability the Saber equips to Edea and adds +3 to her attack.  This gives her an attack of 10 and defense of 7 when fully leveled. She still won’t be a general anyone would be likely to use, but still a welcome upgrade to her.

I have made the one dagger for equipping to Edea, but all the other shards I get will be great for Goblin Emporium use!!

Guilds are here, OK?

August 26, 2010 3 comments

The CA devs released a new feature today: “Guilds“. They made the following announcement with it:

Guilds have been released! Now an easy way to communicate and coordinate with your friends within Castle Age!

On its surface this sounds like a good idea. It can be used by monster hunters to communicate when taking on Next Gen monsters, used by PvP groups for tournaments, and used by small groups to communicate within the game.

Now here are what i see as the downside parts to Guilds as they have been implemented:

  • Limit of 100 members per guild. Most groups are much larger than this. 100 limit would work OK per monster, but long-term I’m not sure its a good idea (yes, I’m aware some other games have already implemented this).
  • Can only belong to 1 guild.
  • 1 billion gold to start a guild? Can’t believe they didn’t make more difficult requirements.
  • There are no incentives. Usually when MMORPG’s implement a guild feature there is some sort of incentive to be in a guild. This seems to be a good idea, but hasn’t been fully implemented yet.

Having said all that I think this is a feature that has promise, but it’s too soon for any excitement. Here is the in-game help file on Guilds:

Guilds are a way for people to band together and create a sense of community within the Castle Age world. Guilds allow individuals to coordinate with each other on battles and monster battles.

Guild Requirements

You must be at least level 50 and be able to pay the 1,000,000,000 gold fee to create a guild. The creator of the guild will become the guild master by default. The guild master can be changed to a different member at a later point. The guild master will choose the guild name, which must be unique and cannot be changed, and the guild banner at that time. In order for a guild to show up on the guild list, the guild must have a minimum of five guild members. The maximum amount of guild members allowed in a guild at one time is 100 members.

Guild Positions

Guild Master
The guild master has the ability to send requests to individuals to join the guild and accept requests from applying individuals. The guild master must be friends with an individual to send a guild request but a guild applicant does not need to be a friend with the guild master in order to apply. The guild master also has to ability to promote guild members to guild officers or to the guild master position, to remove guild members, to change the logo of the guild, and to make announcements. The guild master cannot leave the guild unless he/she is the last member of the guild or the title of guild master has been passed to another guild member.

Guild Officers
A guild member can only be made a guild officer by the guild master. There is a maximum of five guild officers. The guild officers will have the ability to send guild requests as well as accept requests from individuals to join the guilds.

Guild Communications

All Call-to-Arms and other newsfeed posts sent by guild members will appear in one central location within the guild page. Guild members can also to choose to make posts directly onto the profile of another guild member within the guild page. A guild member can made a comment on a post or like the post but it requires special permissions.

The guild master also has the ability to make an announcement which will only visible to guild members from the guild page.

A guild blast can be made by any member of the guild to promote your guild and encourage new people to join or as a means to notify guild members of an event through the Facebook newsfeed.

For security reasons, URLs will be removed from any posts or announcements.

New Battle: Karn, the Minotaur!

August 25, 2010 Leave a comment

With the changes to the Land of Earth there is a new battle: Karn, the Minotaur! This battle works exactly like the Kull monster battle from the Land of Fire. Earlier this month Karn was released as a general in the Oblivion Chest. Here are the important facts for this battle:

  • Karn can only be summoned once.
  • Karn does not show up in the monster battle tab after summoning. You have to into a banner that will show up.
  • Up to 15 can join the battle. But honestly most will probably solo this monster.
  • This is a stamina-based monster. It took me 20 power attacks to kill this monster (100 Stamina). Other reports I’ve seen have said the same thing. Other stamina based monsters include: Dragons, Kiera, Colossuss, and Gildamesh.

I would say everyone should definitely do this battle! It’s easy to do and has loot drops that can be equipped to the general version of Karn.

Here are the important loot drops that can be equipped to the general version of Karn:

Minotaurs Battle Armor, armor, 3/4, +1 Defense to Karn (not stackable)
Even though the item is not stackable you can get more than 1, I received 2 in my battle with him.
This item can drop as an Epic Summoner or regular chance drop.

Skullcrush Mace, weapon, 5/2, +1 Attack to Karn
This weapon is a “unique drop”, it appears to drop 100% for the summoner.

Pendant of the Bull, amulet, 1/2, +3 Stamina when Karn is equipped
This amulet is available as a common drop.

Here is the info for the general version of Karn:

Karn, the Minotaur!

Level 1: 17/19   +20 Attack on your next Attack, 10-hour cooldown
Level 2: 18/20   +30 Attack on your next Attack, 10-hour cooldown
Level 3: 19/21   +40 Attack on your next Attack, 10-hour cooldown
Level 4: 20/22  +50 Attack on your next Attack, 10-hour cooldown
Level 4 +3 items: 21/23  +50 Attack on your next Attack, 10-hour cooldown, +3 Stamina when Karn is equipped

L4 ATT PWR: 35.4
L4 DEF PWR: 36
L4set ATT PWR: 37.1
L4set DEF PWR: 37.7

L4 War ATT PWR: 212.4
L4 War DEF PWR: 216
L4set War ATT PWR: 222.6
L4set War DEF PWR: 226.2

This is a pretty good Chest general to have, some of them are almost worthless. The key is to time his special ability right, it can only be used once every 10 hours. The +50 to attack if timed right could make for one major attack. Other than that he makes a pretty fair war general.

Changes to Land of Earth

August 25, 2010 Leave a comment

Yesterday evening the CA devs made an unannounced change to the Land of Earth. It now has a map where you choose which quest to do, so those familiar with how the new Land of Fire looks will see a familiar sight. All of the old quests are still there, and there is one addition: Karn, the Minotaur! See my other post for info on Karn.

Here is the important info I have on the Land of Earth changes:

  • All of the old quests are still there, including sub-quests.
  • If the sub-quests are missing you must complete the Gift of Earth quest. That’s the one where you get the Colossal Orb. After completing that you will have your sub-quests back! (quite a few people were freaked out because they thought this great source of SP was lost).
  • The Karn quest can be done only once!

Other than that there is little to mention. The change basically is giving a new look for the realm and adding the Karn battle.

New Gift: Crimson Dagger Gift!

August 20, 2010 4 comments

Even though the CA devs didn’t release their bi-weekly general, they have released a new gift this week: Crimson Dagger Gift! The Crimson Dagger Gift does not knock the previous gift, the Favor Mystery Gift, off the list. Here is the blurb CA released with this new gift:

Crimson Dagger Gift released! Elena’s sacred dagger will help you on your journey!

There are 4 components to this gift: Crimson Leaf, Magic Acorn, Dagger Piece 1 of 2, and Dagger Piece 2 of 2. All four components are “pure alchemy” items, thus they can all be used in the Goblin Emporium. 2 Leafs, 2 Acorns, and 1 of each dagger piece make up the alchemy recipe. To combine the shards go to “Alchemy” > “Recipes” and click “Combine”.

Once the shards are combined you will get the Crimson Dagger.

The dagger will show up in your inventory in the town under Blacksmith. The Crimson Dagger is a weapon with an Attack of 3 and a Defense of 7. At this power level it is equal to the Morningstar (Mystery Artifact Gift), but weaker than the Ornate Axe. If you don’t have Ornate Axe as your weakest weapon I would make these. See my previous post on how the Ornate Axe makes mystery gift weapons irrelevant for invasions.

For its special ability the Saber equips to Elena and adds +3 to energy when she is active general.  This makes a total of 7 energy which can be gained while Elena is equipped. While there are better generals out there; this may be worth it for lower level characters who need a level up or energy refill general.

I have made the one dagger for equipping to Elena, but all the other shards I get will be great for Goblin Emporium use!!
